A KUBRA Case Study
Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), the parent company of Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric, needed a better way to keep customers informed after major storms drove more people to mobile devices for outage and restoration updates. PHI was already using KUBRA’s Storm Center power outage maps and turned to KUBRA to extend those capabilities into mobile apps that could deliver real-time customer communication and self-service on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
KUBRA built and continuously enhanced PHI’s mobile apps with features such as outage reporting, account-specific outage information, one-time payments, improved outage maps, bill viewing and payment, paperless billing enrollment, energy usage access, and multi-premise account management. The results were strong: by March 2015, the apps had more than 255,000 downloads and 233,000 new users, with 91% of downloaders opening the app at least once. Customers used the KUBRA Mobile apps to pay over 140,000 bills and submit more than 51,000 outage reports, with 7.5% of outages reported via mobile in 2014 and usage more than doubling during storms.
