University of Waterloo - Customer Case Study

Professor Peter Teertstra, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, faced the challenge of creating meaningful and engaging learning activities for his online STEM courses. Limited by traditional tools like lectures and problem sets, he sought a way to encourage collaboration and provide students with a deeper, more personalized understanding of difficult concepts such as those in Thermodynamics.

The solution was implementing Kritik's peer evaluation platform. Dr. Teertstra created creative activities that encouraged students to view problems from different perspectives. This approach led to significant results, including many students achieving perfect scores on a Boundary Work exam problem that had traditionally been very difficult. Kritik provided a flexible, hands-off platform that was quick to set up and required minimal time commitment from the instructor, all while fostering a more effective and engaging learning environment.
