University of Alberta improves team-based learning for 1,600+ students with Kritik

The University of Alberta sought to implement team-based learning (TBL) to foster a sense of community and accountability in its large courses, but faced the challenge of managing this effectively in a cohort of over 1,600 students. To address this, the university partnered with the vendor Kritik to utilize its peer assessment service.

Kritik's solution paired team-based learning activities with structured peer assessment on its platform. This implementation allowed for a quick feedback turnaround, built students' presentation skills and increased accountability within groups. For the University of Alberta, Kritik helped produce better learning outcomes and enabled students to engage in higher-order learning through reflection on their work.
