Classroom to the Community Learning Experiences with Peer Assessment

The University of Missouri's Professor Sarah Buckallew sought a way to effectively assess students who were applying their nutrition knowledge in a real-world community food pantry setting, a process that was difficult for a single instructor to observe and grade. She turned to the vendor Kritik and its peer assessment platform to manage this unique challenge and mitigate the significant grading burden.

By implementing Kritik's peer assessment solution, students submitted their recipes and video pitches and then provided constructive criticism to each other. This gave the professor insight into the students' learning process and engagement, while also ensuring students received timely feedback within approximately five days. The results included an elevated learning experience for the students and a more efficient, streamlined grading process for the instructor, with the benefits of the peer feedback extending beyond the classroom into the community.
