A Kount Case Study
The Wasserstrom Company, a leading food-service distributor managing over 30,000 SKUs and large national distribution centers, faced a severe fraud spike in 2014 that drove chargebacks to a peak of 5.5%. To control losses they removed popular, high-risk products from their site and blocked sales to certain cities, while dedicating significant staff time to manual order reviews with little success.
Wasserstrom implemented Kount quickly and saw immediate impact: chargebacks fell 50% in the first month and now average 0.25–0.3% (as low as 0.11%), about twenty times lower than the peak. They reinstated high-value products that generate $7,500–$10,000 monthly (up to $12,000), resumed shipping to previously blocked areas, and cut fraud-review time from 3–4 hours a day to roughly 30 minutes, substantially reducing costs and recovering lost sales.
