Case Study: Victrix achieves rapid, high-availability Microsoft Lync & Exchange rollout with KEMP Technologies

A KEMP Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Victrix Case Study

Victrix selects Kemp for reverse proxy & Microsoft TMG replacement

Victrix, a Quebec-based IT solutions provider for educational institutions, was engaged to build a unified communications, e-mail and web platform for a public college in Montreal. The project required high availability and application-level load balancing for Microsoft Exchange and Lync to support several thousand users, replace a legacy PBX and Microsoft TMG as a reverse SIP proxy, and keep total cost of ownership low. Victrix selected KEMP Technologies and its LoadMaster family—specifically the Virtual LoadMaster (VLM-1000) virtual load balancer—because of ease of management and Microsoft certification.

Victrix deployed two KEMP Technologies VLM-1000 Virtual LoadMasters in a high-availability configuration on the college’s virtualized infrastructure, using KEMP’s application-aware ADC capabilities to monitor Exchange, Lync and SharePoint components and intelligently balance HTTPS and SIP flows. The rollout took less than two days and went live in July 2013 for back-to-school; the system is in active use (including as a telephony tool), is being extended to other departments, has achieved near‑100% reliability with no major deployment issues, and delivered the expected high availability, redundancy and lower TCO.
