A KEMP Technologies Case Study
Texas A&M University’s Provost IT Office (PITO) supports roughly 40 departments and needed a cost-conscious, high-availability load balancing solution that would run on Microsoft Hyper‑V, avoid Java-based admin consoles, provide customizable IPS protection, and simplify SSL certificate management. After operational pain with their prior load balancer’s slow web UI and limited features, they evaluated alternatives and selected KEMP Technologies’ Virtual LoadMaster (VLM‑1000).
KEMP Technologies implemented the VLM‑1000 to deliver Hyper‑V support, a Snort‑compatible tunable IPS, centralized SSL offload and easy certificate swapping, and simple HA with a single-management IP. The deployment produced “headache‑free” SSL management with almost no client downtime, dramatically reduced time spent on reconfiguration (previously tasks could take up to an hour), and yielded clear time savings and increased administrator productivity for Texas A&M.
