A Jira Software Case Study
The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney (Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences) needed a more flexible, easy-to-manage platform to replace Drupal and a rigid service desk. With 450 staff and volunteers creating and managing content across 20 departments and many exhibition projects, the museum faced bottlenecks at web services, costly customizations, and slow paper-based or hard-to-share project processes.
They adopted Atlassian Confluence and Jira (with Crowd SSO) to serve as their intranet, departmental blogs/spaces, and exhibition content hubs, while using Jira to replace the inflexible service desk and paper workflows. The integrated setup—plus email-based issue responses and useful plugins—won broad adoption: 20 departments now use the tools, content creation is distributed, project tracking is centralized on Jira dashboards, and project managers save time by no longer chasing task progress.
