A Jira Software Case Study
OpenDNS, a fast-growing DNS security provider based in San Francisco with about 40 employees, needed a way to scale engineering processes and tame a sprawling backlog as they built products for millions of users. Their challenges included managing hundreds of user stories across teams, running efficient sprints, introducing consistent code reviews, and centralizing company knowledge — all while keeping tools responsive and integrated.
They adopted Atlassian’s suite (Jira + GreenHopper, Confluence, Crucible, Fisheye) and used versions/sub-versions and a “Next Sprint Candidate” workflow to prioritize work, the GreenHopper task board for daily execution, Crucible for asynchronous code reviews, and Confluence as the company wiki. The result was markedly better communication and corporate memory, easier prioritization and code review, and smoother cross-tool integration — improvements users notice even if they don’t have before-and-after metrics.
