Linden Lab Selects Atlassian Jira for New Second Life Viewer Open Source Project

Linden Lab, creator of the virtual world Second Life, released the source code for its Viewer client and needed a community-facing system to track bugs, feature requests and collaborative development work. The challenge was to support an open source developer community while maintaining the robust issue management Linden Lab had relied on internally.

They selected Atlassian Jira as the community issue tracker, leveraging a tool they already used for internal collaboration and knowledge sharing. Jira provided flexible task and bug management (and was available free to qualified open source projects), enabling streamlined community contributions, clearer issue workflows and more effective coordination of the Viewer’s ongoing development.
