Case Study: Kiva achieves faster collaboration and scales its microlending platform with Jira Software

A Jira Software Case Study

Preview of the Kiva Case Study

Kiva grows its microlending platform with Atlassian

Kiva is a nonprofit microlending platform that connects more than 1.5 million lenders with entrepreneurs worldwide and has raised over $900 million for borrowers. With 100+ staff and 400+ volunteers spread across 80+ countries, Kiva struggled with fragmented tools and email-based communication that made global collaboration slow and inefficient.

Kiva standardized on Atlassian—Jira for tracking, Confluence for knowledge and project collaboration, and HipChat for real-time communication—bringing teams online within a week. Confluence became the single source for partner policies and loan operations, Jira integrated with HipChat sped up support, and engineering/product teams coordinated more easily; as a result, distributed teams work more efficiently, scale faster, and build software and partnerships more effectively to advance Kiva’s mission.
