Issue Tracking with Zend, the PHP Company

Zend is Zend Technologies, the well-known “PHP company” founded by original PHP contributors (Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski), headquartered in Cupertino with ~115 employees and commercial products like Zend Server and Zend Studio. Facing a legacy, heavily modified Mantis bug tracker that lacked flexible workflows, reporting, and visibility, Zend needed a clean, scalable issue-tracking system that would reflect their development processes and support agile practices.

They migrated to Atlassian Jira (with GreenHopper and Fisheye integrations), configuring per-project workflows, dashboards, and custom reports. The switch was smooth and quickly adopted across teams—QA became a strong advocate—and provided much better visibility into bugs and work items, richer reporting and slicing of data, and the ability to track deliverables as tasks; Zend plans to expand GreenHopper use and extract more insights from Jira.
