Case Study: AppDynamics breaks down silos and boosts uptime with Jira Software

A Jira Software Case Study

How AppDynamics transformed from a siloed startup to a team of teams

AppDynamics, a San Francisco–based application‑monitoring company that doubled its headcount as it scaled toward ~1,500–2,000 employees, faced growing pains as its “startup within a startup” teams became siloed. Legacy processes and a makeshift service desk built on Jira Software weren’t keeping up—internal teams lacked transparency, non‑technical users needed a user‑friendly support channel, and the organization was hitting cloud limits that caused near‑daily infrastructure crashes.

The team standardized on Atlassian’s suite—deploying Jira Service Desk and Confluence, building a product‑intake portal, and migrating to a two‑node Jira Data Center on AWS with Adaptavist—while providing training and Slack support. They automated a full Jira stack deployment (seven minutes), scaled the service desk to nine additional teams, and blended DevOps agility with ITSM discipline; crashes dropped from daily to about twice per year, uptime and cross‑team transparency improved, and the company reduced overhead for future growth.
