FlixBus launches Europe’s biggest bus network with Atlassian

FlixBus, Europe’s largest intercity bus network with about 200,000 daily connections to 1,200 destinations in 24 countries, needed to launch a new long-distance bus service after Germany deregulated rail in 2013. Existing airline or off‑the‑shelf tools didn’t fit the point‑to‑point, multi‑stop routing and operational needs, so the company had to build bespoke route, driver and pricing systems while managing complex, cross‑functional development work.

FlixBus standardized on the Atlassian suite—Trello for ideation, Jira Software for development workflows, Confluence for documentation, Bitbucket for code and Jira Service Desk for internal tickets—enabling them to build network planning, dynamic pricing, website and app systems. The result was a scalable, transparent development process that accelerated delivery, improved collaboration across product, engineering and operations, and helped FlixBus become a market leader in European long‑distance bus travel.
