A Jira Software Case Study
EDP, a Lisbon-based global energy utility with more than 13,000 employees and operations across five continents, needed to move away from a slow, siloed waterfall approach. After starting agile pilots in 2012, the company sought a collaborative, flexible toolset to standardize processes, improve visibility, and scale a consistent way of working across teams and geographies.
EDP implemented Atlassian Jira and Confluence (later adding Bitbucket) and adopted a bimodal agile/waterfall model, rolling the tools out to about 4,500 active users across 200+ agile projects. The change delivered a 40% reduction in project lead times, improved cross-team collaboration and customer engagement (higher NPS), simpler global scaling and governance, and a user-friendly platform they are now migrating to a data‑center license for greater resilience.
