Case Study: Major Public Health Concerns And Associated Provider quantifies post-surgical hypotension-related AKI and MI costs and length of stay with IQVIA

A IQVIA Case Study

Preview of the Major Public Health Concerns And Associated Provider Case Study

Risk of hypotension post-surgery and average burden for the patient to treat acute kidney injury and myocardial infraction

Major Public Health Concerns And Associated Provider engaged IQVIA to assess the risk of hypotension after surgery and quantify the patient burden of resulting complications—specifically acute kidney injury (AKI) and myocardial infarction. IQVIA performed a retrospective analysis of care records for a range of high-risk surgical procedures to measure complication rates and economic and clinical outcomes.

IQVIA’s analysis measured rates of AKI and myocardial infarction following hypotension, renal replacement therapy use, incremental length of stay, mortality, and per-patient costs across the surgical cohort. The work enabled the customer to identify an incremental length of stay for patients with AKI complications and demonstrated a significant increase in cost burden for those patients, providing actionable, measurable evidence of the clinical and economic impact.
