A IQVIA Case Study
Leading Biotech Company ran a Phase I/IIa topical acne vulgaris trial requiring 100+ adult subjects but fell well short of enrollment targets. Recruitment was hampered by widespread OTC treatments, insurance-covered therapies, narrow eligibility criteria, an accelerated startup and a holiday-season extension that delayed the Last Patient In (LPI) date. IQVIA was engaged (IQVIA Biotech) to review tactics and design a targeted recruitment campaign to help sites complete enrollment.
IQVIA Biotech implemented a targeted radio advertising campaign to support eight of 12 sites (ads ran in week 17 for seven sites and three weeks later for the eighth) and led enhanced site communications and sponsor meetings. The campaign generated 10 subjects screened and 8 subjects randomized, helping sites reach the revised LPI; IQVIA’s site teleconferences, media buying and enrollment oversight also improved momentum. IQVIA’s analysis concluded that an earlier, proactive recruitment program (four rounds of media starting shortly after first patient visit) would likely have met the original enrollment deadline and avoided additional delay and cost.
