HSH Real Estate, Germany’s leading real estate corporation, was appointed by the City of Hamburg in 2005 to sell municipal property. The challenge was to maximize sale proceeds while giving many potential domestic and international buyers secure access to highly sensitive documents (blueprints, leases, contracts, financials) without the time-consuming, inefficient constraints of a physical data room.
HSH deployed an Intralinks virtual data room with strong security, watermarking, document access controls and activity reporting to qualify bidders and manage hundreds of users. The platform supported rapid site visits and expert sessions, attracted 350 interested parties (150 international), generated multiple competing bids per asset, and enabled the sale of all assets for €1 billion; HSH subsequently reused Intralinks for additional transactions.
