John Lewis reduces store carbon by 35-40% with Integrated Environmental Solutions

John Lewis sought to create its most sustainable department store to date and meet a corporate target to reduce absolute carbon emissions by 15% across all its stores by 2020. To achieve this, they worked with vendor Integrated Environmental Solutions and their consulting partner, Lateral Technologies, who utilized the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software to design a BREEAM Outstanding building.

Integrated Environmental Solutions' technology enabled the analysis and implementation of energy-saving strategies, including a high-efficiency chiller, photovoltaic panels, and full LED lighting. The result was the John Lewis York store, which achieved a 35-40% reduction in carbon emissions compared to similar stores. The team also used IES's iSCAN tool to monitor the building in operation, ensuring it performed as designed and identifying any performance gaps.
