Excellus BCBS, a New York–based health insurer serving nearly 1.5 million members, faced stagnant provider adoption of electronic remittance advice/electronic funds transfer (ERA/EFT)—just 22% of transactions were electronic a decade after launch—while print and mail costs continued to rise. After an RFP, Excellus BCBS chose InstaMed and its Claims Settlement solution to drive adoption and consolidate payment processing.
InstaMed deployed its Claims Settlement solution with a full-service Provider Adoption Program, access to the InstaMed Network, integration into KeyBank, and the InstaMed Online for Providers portal. Within six months ERA/EFT transaction volume rose 145% (from 22% to 54% of transactions), monies paid via EFT increased from 80% to 93%, and Excellus BCBS achieved more than $400K in first‑year savings from reduced printing, postage and operational efficiencies.
