Rovio Entertainment, creator of Angry Birds 2, tested whether ads made specifically for Instagram Stories would drive more app installs than creative repurposed from other channels. The company’s challenge was to optimize creative for the unique vertical Stories format and measure its impact on installs and cost per install.

Rovio produced custom vertical Stories ads showing a character launching across the screen and targeted Lookalike and custom audiences. The tailored creative delivered an 82% lift in installs versus a 68% lift for repurposed ads (a 14-point advantage), plus lower costs per install — 11% cheaper on iOS and 7% cheaper on Android.
