Aegean Airlines, Greece’s largest carrier and a Star Alliance member, set out to lower the cost of its flight ads and improve return on ad spend. Already advertising on Facebook and Instagram, the airline wanted to test Instagram as a travel placement and use retargeting to better reach people who had shown interest in flights.

Aegean added Instagram placements, retargeted visitors who searched for flights on its website, and used lookalike audiences to find new potential customers. The campaign lifted return on ad spend by 64%, increased overall reach by 20%, and cut cost per acquisition by 44%.
