Using simple upsell messaging to increase average order value

The fast food giant McDonald's wanted to increase its website sales and average order value without having to offer costly discounts or promotions. They partnered with the vendor Insider to find a solution using its digital experience platform.

Insider implemented a targeted upsell campaign using an A/B test. A pop-up message, created with Insider, offered customers adding an item to their basket the option to include a recently re-introduced apple pie. This strategy resulted in a 12.89% uplift in average order value and a 7.64% increase in conversion rates, proving highly successful for McDonald's.
