UBA Bank, a leading pan‑African bank, needed to improve customer engagement in Nigeria by adding convenient, SMS‑based services that could scale to its large user base. To meet this challenge, UBA Bank partnered with Infobip and deployed Infobip’s mGate messaging gateway and USSD services to support event‑based SMS and interactive, API‑driven USSD workflows.

Infobip integrated with UBA Bank’s databases to target customers (for example, prompting those without a linked BVN to submit it via USSD), driving over 400,000 USSD sessions, and has processed more than one billion transactional SMS messages on the bank’s behalf. Infobip’s solution also enabled airtime top‑ups as a new customer convenience and revenue stream, improved engagement, and was supported by local implementation and 24/7 technical support from Infobip’s Nigeria team.
