Staples used its advocate community, The InsidersNetwork, to better align customer marketing with the company’s brand repositioning. The challenge was to re-engage advocates and boost overall participation while building excitement and skills around the rebrand, with targets of 10% engagement and 6% re-engagement.
The team launched the “Road to Reinvention” campaign with 105 brand-focused challenges, split advocates into two voting teams, and offered theme-specific rewards like business headshots, charitable donations, and breakroom perks, timed to coincide with the company rebrand announcement. The campaign exceeded expectations: 12% engagement (vs. 10% goal), 6% re-engagement, 29% growth in participating advocates over the prior campaign, and 1,204 advocates actively engaged.
