How A Huge Software Brand Uncovered Legions Of Loyal Advocates

HP Software’s IT Service Management group faced a common enterprise problem: traditional reference programs were stale and slow, and the team wanted deeper, ongoing connections with customers to improve experience, speed up reference requests, enable product collaboration, and generate customer-driven marketing. With over 2,000 enterprise accounts, HP needed a way to make top customers feel heard and to surface real advocates beyond the usual suspects.

HP partnered with Influitive to launch the HP ITSM Insiders hub—a gamified, invitation-only advocate program that started with about 50 members and grew to nearly 1,000 in under nine months. Advocates produced vast amounts of social content and product feedback, enabled rapid reference availability (50–60 for Gartner in hours), contributed hundreds of surveys and tweets, and even authored an e-book entirely written by customers—demonstrating stronger engagement, faster reference agility, and measurable marketing lift.
