Hero K12, a student behavior and engagement company, relaunched its advocate marketing program in October 2016 with the twin goals of engaging more educators and growing its advocate base to at least 600. The team believed that creating a warmer, more personal program experience would drive referrals, content creation, social sharing, and customer references.

They made onboarding personal—having the program manager greet every new advocate and run a “5 Things About Me, 5 Things About You” challenge—and used timely, tailored campaigns (e.g., Teacher Appreciation Week, National Principals’ Month) to boost participation and recognition. The approach paid off: 961 new advocates, $113K+ in referral revenue, 49 referral leads, 243 testimonials, 87 online reviews (15 leads), 43 customer references, 1,066 social activities, plus 13 customer stories and 4 advocate-written blogs.
