Western Australia Police Improving Legislation, Improving Quality of Life

Western Australia Police, which polices 2.5 million km² across 157 stations, faced growing demand for services that threatened to outstrip resources. As part of its Frontline 2020 reforms the force needed to reduce red tape, boost efficiency and capture practical improvement ideas from an 8,000-strong workforce.

To do that the Continuous Improvement Team launched a Frontline Innovation Portal on IdeaScale, using targeted promotion, personalized responses and a stage‑gate review process to triage and fast-track ideas. The program generated 1,900+ ideas from 4,851 users (60% of the workforce), moved 1,300+ ideas to completion, delivered a legislative change saving up to 46,000 frontline hours annually, achieved over $2M in estimated savings, and improved engagement and organizational culture.
