UNCW Wilmington - Customer Case Study

The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s University Innovation Council (UIC) was created to surface and evaluate ideas across campus. In 2013 the UIC used the IdeaScale platform to engage the community in re-conceiving the university calendar to better use all 12 months (especially summer) and their coastal location, with goals including richer learning experiences, greater efficiency, lower costs and expanded access for non‑traditional students.

Using IdeaScale and a rebranded “What’s Our IQ?” campaign—with time‑limited topics and one highlighted idea at a time—the UIC drove wide participation and focused discussion. The effort helped build a collaborative innovation culture: the initial program drew ~4,000 users, 5,200 votes and 813 comments on about 100 ideas, and the new campaign generated 61 ideas and 629 votes from nearly 900 users focused on summer school and calendar redesign.
