A IdeaScale Case Study
The Queensland Police Service (QPS), responsible for policing the vast state of Queensland and supporting a distributed workforce of about 15,000 across 327 stations, needed a way to connect staff across ranks and regions so people could share ideas, ask questions and improve operations outside the normal chain of command. The challenge was to create a trusted, easy channel for frontline and support staff to contribute suggestions that would make the organisation simpler, better and safer.
QPS launched the Ideas Connecting Our People (iCOP) program on IdeaScale, backed by a broad communications campaign, active moderation, targeted outreach and a “if not—why not” feedback approach; contributors who moved ideas to “Great wins” received a small thank-you gift. The program generated more than 600 ideas, engaged over 40% of the workforce across every level and region, produced high-profile wins such as 2,200 votes to reprioritise QLITE work packages, and improved staff perceptions of innovation (e.g., “organisation open to new ideas” +4%, “management willing to act” +5%).
