A IdeaScale Case Study
PSA International is a leading global port operator with more than 50 terminals across 19 countries, handling over 85 million TEUs in 2019. As PSA expanded, innovation was fragmented: ideas were submitted by individual business units via paper and email, with no centralized visibility or way to share best practices across the network. PSA needed a scalable, global platform to capture, route and surface ideas across its organization.
In 2016 PSA adopted IdeaScale (branded internally as iCAN) to run domain-centric campaigns, train new units, and involve senior leaders and SMEs in evaluation. The platform standardized a clear ideation-to-implementation workflow, enabled multilingual participation, and supported competitions to surface solutions. By the end of 2019 engagement had tripled (from ~500 to >1,500 ideas/comments), 21 business units and ~12,000 users were onboarded, moderators met two-week routing targets and SMEs met one-month assessment targets, with successful ideas shared and implemented across the organization.
