OpenMaps Implementing Ideas at the Speed of Suggestion

OpenMaps is a fast, accessible iPhone app for viewing and editing OpenStreetMap data. In early 2010 the team faced a challenge: they needed a simple, in-app way to collect bug reports and feature requests from thousands of users instead of relying on email or social channels.

They integrated the IdeaScale iPhone feedback widget in under a day, enabling users to submit ideas and vote on suggestions without leaving the app. The widget generated hundreds of submissions, helped prioritize work, led to 13 new features (e.g., more map types, enforced offline mode, cloud‑mate routing), sped up bug fixes with push notifications, and became a core part of the OpenMaps offering.
