New York University Giving a Voice to Marginalized University Populations

New York University (NYU), a large private research university, tasked its Administrative Management Council (AMC) with better representing front-line administrative staff across campuses. The AMC wanted a way to collect and surface ideas, votes and transparent feedback — including anonymous submissions — that accurately reflected staff priorities and could be easily branded and accessed from any device.

They launched OpenAMC on the IdeaScale platform with a coordinated marketing push and bi‑weekly idea review process that funnels proposals to appropriate policymakers. The community achieved near‑100% participation, doubled Council meeting attendance, and produced tangible outcomes including exploration of a sick‑leave donation program, a new research data committee, and a review of tuition remission policy — giving previously unheard staff a clear, trackable voice in university decision‑making.
