How Crowdsourcing Empowered Diverse University Voices

New York University (NYU) needed a better way to gather ideas and feedback from more than 4,000 administrators, faculty, staff, and students across the university. The Administrative Management Council faced challenges with limited in-person participation, inconsistent feedback processes, and a lack of a scalable way to include quieter voices, so it turned to IdeaScale for a crowdsourcing and idea management platform.

Using IdeaScale’s Open AMC community, NYU created a more transparent, branded space for submitting, voting on, and discussing ideas, including anonymous input. The result was stronger engagement and measurable impact: meeting attendance doubled from about 100 to 200, and the platform helped launch or inform initiatives such as an anti-racism task force, tuition remission policy review, and input for the presidential search.
