Environmental Resources Management Building a Community Around Innovation

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is a global environmental, health, safety and sustainability consultancy with 160+ offices and over 5,000 employees. In September 2015 ERM launched its first-ever global staff Innovation Tournament to capture market-facing and internal improvement ideas from employees worldwide and to boost engagement across the firm.

ERM used the IdeaScale platform plus CEO-led communications, an internal social campaign and a three-round judging process (shortlist, mentoring and firm-wide voting, then executive presentation) to collect and evaluate ideas. The tournament generated 465 submissions and engaged more than 3,000 employees (a 69% participation rate); the top idea will be scoped and funded for the next fiscal year and remaining concepts will be harvested for later implementation.
