Case Study: Earth Science Information Partners achieves high‑value, sponsor‑aligned ideas and collaborative science teams with IdeaScale

A IdeaScale Case Study

Preview of the Earth Science Information Partners Case Study

Earth Science Information Partners Building Teams of Science Rock Stars

Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) is an open, networked community of science, data and IT practitioners supported by NASA, NOAA, USGS and 110+ member organizations that runs member-driven ideation challenges and prize competitions ($5,000–$10,000) to solve data-centric problems. Previously, members self-organized into small clusters or were assigned manually, which limited reach and the diversity of solutions.

By adopting IdeaScale and running a multichannel launch (targeted outreach, newsletter, social media, telecons and website links), ESIP opened challenges to the whole community, seeded ideas and offered incentives to boost participation. The result: more than ten high-value ideas that were higher quality and better aligned with sponsor needs, IdeaScale becoming integral to ESIP’s process, and plans to use it to crowdsource future conference content.
