Case Study: Princess Cruises accelerates employee-driven innovation with IdeaScale

A IdeaScale Case Study

Preview of the Princess Cruises Case Study

Becoming the Most Innovative Cruise Line

Princess Cruises, a global leader in travel and hospitality carrying 1.7 million guests annually, wanted to harness frontline employee creativity to stay at the forefront of innovation. The challenge was to engage staff both at sea and ashore, capture ideas transparently across the organization, and create a process to evaluate and implement the best suggestions.

Princess launched the We Innovate crowdsourcing program in 2014 using IdeaScale, promoted it company-wide, and governed it with a dedicated innovation committee and a full-time community manager. Ideas are routed to business owners for review and implementation; the program has generated 2,700+ ideas from over 4,000 users, produced implemented suggestions—from a ship name to new menu offerings and employee quality-of-life improvements—and sustained ongoing employee engagement with cash prizes and timed challenges.
