Southeastern Railway adopt Q-Pulse to stay on track to Safety

Southeastern, one of Britain’s largest commuter rail operators (about 3,500 staff serving 179 stations), faced the challenge of improving safety accountability and performance across a large, dispersed estate. After consolidating fire safety responsibility (reducing Fire Precautions Managers from 86 to 18) the business launched a Key Safety Manager (KSM) programme—identifying ~30 line managers responsible for over 90% of premises and people—but needed a way to roll the model out, engage busy managers, simplify reporting and deliver lasting improvement.

Working with Ideagen, Southeastern implemented a rail-specific Q-Pulse solution (AIMS) using the Mandatory Reporting System to manage investigation workflow, give local access to safety data, and link to the industry SMIS database. The changes removed double data entry, improved data quality and visibility of incidents, helped identify workflow pinch points, increased safety awareness and manager engagement, and led to industry recognition with a nomination for Safety & Security Excellence.
