A Ideagen Case Study
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), the England and Wales authority responsible for blood supply and organ donation, needed a single electronic quality management system to meet tightening regulatory demands (MHRA, GMP, EU directives) and to replace inconsistent, regionally varied paper and local systems. The organisation required a central national document control and incident-management capability to standardise processes, demonstrate compliance and drive performance improvement across all sites.
NHSBT implemented Q-Pulse nationally (from 2005) and expanded its modules and web functionality to cover document control, incidents/occurrences, CAPA, change control, audits and equipment management. The rollout delivered a unified UK-wide QMS, eliminated paper incident reports, improved trend analysis and root-cause investigations, enabled faster, owner-assigned corrective actions, supported organisational learning and patient/donor safety improvements, and helped keep operations efficient and within budget.
