NHS Blood & Transplant benefit from organisationwide QMS – including national document control system

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), the joint England and Wales authority responsible for blood supply and organ donation, faced increasing regulatory demands (MHRA, GMP, EU directives) and uneven regional practices. The organisation needed a single, centralised electronic quality management and document-control system to standardise processes, eliminate paper incident reporting, and ensure consistent compliance and performance across all sites.

NHSBT implemented Q-Pulse nationally (building on earlier local use) and expanded its Incidents/Occurrences and web-reporting modules to cover document control, CAPA, change control, audits and equipment management. The result is a UK-wide QMS used by all sites, fully electronic incident reporting, faster investigations with owner-specific actions, better trend analysis and organisational learning, improved donor and patient safety, and more efficient, cost‑effective quality management with further rollouts planned.
