How T-Mobile uses AIOps to maximize efficiency and reliability

T‑Mobile faced a major operational challenge after acquiring Sprint: the merger nearly added half a million monitored devices and created about 3 million new faults per day, while requiring the integration of two decade‑old, disparate network management systems without sacrificing reliability. To meet this scale and complexity, T‑Mobile turned to IBM and deployed IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps to consolidate monitoring, correlate faults, and maintain consistent service quality across the newly combined 5G network.

IBM implemented Watson AIOps connectors and adapters to quickly integrate data from the legacy platforms, enable enrichment and real‑time correlation, and consolidate SNMP traffic through a single probe. The result was dramatic: T‑Mobile processed 90% of alarm volume using a tenth of the target system scale and cut average fault‑to‑display time from about five minutes to 19 seconds. IBM’s solution also delivered geographic redundancy and a foundation for AI‑driven, closed‑loop automation to further improve efficiency and reliability.
