A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Vodafone Case Study

Cloud-based service brings innovation-driven economic development and efficiency to smaller cities

Vodafone España S.A.U., the Spanish unit of Vodafone Group, wanted to offer smarter‑city services to smaller municipalities that could not justify the high upfront costs of traditional deployments. To create a low‑cost, repeatable offering Vodafone partnered with IBM and used IBM solutions including InfoSphere Information Server, IBM Intelligent Operations Center, IBM MobileFirst, IBM Maximo and IBM Cloud Orchestrator running on IBM infrastructure.

IBM implemented a cloud‑based, pay‑as‑you‑go managed service that collects real‑time sensor data, enables fact‑based decision making and mobile citizen engagement, and can be deployed incrementally. The solution reduced the cost of connected‑city programs by more than 90% versus traditional approaches, created a new recurring revenue stream for Vodafone, and accelerated digital innovation and more efficient municipal services through IBM’s platform and services.
