Case Study: Japan Airlines achieves a flexible hybrid cloud infrastructure with IBM

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Japan Airlines Case Study

Building a hybrid cloud infrastructure to support and realize JAL's vision

Japan Airlines, through its core IT subsidiary JAL INFOTEC, was struggling with an outdated legacy IT environment that slowed digital transformation and limited its ability to support the airline’s vision. Japan Airlines engaged IBM to help build a more flexible hybrid cloud infrastructure on IBM Cloud to better balance quality, cost, and speed.

IBM implemented the CIEL hybrid cloud environment, combining private and public clouds with the same virtualization architecture and unified management. The result was a system that went live in December 2018 and now supports new service releases every six months, seamless switching between environments without stopping virtual machines, and greater automation that reduced engineers’ time on routine operations so they could focus more on design and development.
