Preview of the Singapore Committee for UN Women Case Study

Singapore Committee for UN Women Ending gender inequality with social media

The Singapore Committee for UN Women runs Project Inspire, a global five‑minute pitch competition that empowers youth to propose solutions for gender inequality and violence across Asia‑Pacific, Africa and the Middle East. Their challenge was reaching remote and diverse audiences, recruiting and coordinating ambassadors worldwide, and managing a high volume of user‑generated content and conversations to source entrants and amplify winning ideas.

They used social media—supported by Hootsuite—to recruit 29 ambassadors across 31 countries, monitor and schedule content, and coordinate campaigns and conversations. The effort generated about 1,800 submissions from 70+ countries, attracted 56,885 views for finalist videos, helped finalists raise nearly $50,000 annually, and led to projects that have positively impacted roughly 19,400 women and girls (including initiatives like Cents for Seeds, which reached 800 women).
