Radio Italia is a national commercial radio station in Italy that set out to expand its digital presence and grow listeners by reaching its core demographic (women 25–55), engaging audiences on new channels, and driving traffic back to its website. To meet these goals the station made a strategic decision to integrate social media into its marketing and adopt Hootsuite to coordinate posting, monitoring, and audience engagement.
The team built a focused content strategy for Facebook and Twitter—using Facebook Insights to shape content, Hootsuite for scheduling and streams, and event-driven live streams and hashtag campaigns to spark conversation. The approach delivered strong results: Radio Italia became the most “liked” radio station in Italy and the first radio station to reach 2 million Facebook followers, achieved 95–99% customer service satisfaction on Twitter, increased listeners and website traffic, and produced hashtags that trend nationally and internationally.
