Kiva is a nonprofit that connects people worldwide through microloans to alleviate poverty, enabling nearly two million lenders to generate over $628 million in loans across 80 countries. Their challenge was to cultivate lasting communities between borrowers and lenders and keep a steady stream of high-quality, personal stories—despite a social team of just two people coordinating content from 450+ volunteers and 285 field partners around the globe.
Kiva solved this by building a tight content pipeline: field fellows and volunteers source photos and anecdotes, the small social team curates and schedules posts with Hootsuite, and monthly analytics and a “Social Media Digest” track engagement and growth. The approach scales storytelling, deepens lender–borrower connections, sustains a social audience of 500,000+ followers, and helps Kiva meet its outreach and fundraising goals.
