Case Study: Pacific Wild achieves global awareness for the Great Bear Rainforest with Hootsuite

A Hootsuite Case Study

How to use social to promote awareness for a good cause

Pacific Wild, founded by Ian and Karen McAllister, is a non‑profit protecting the Great Bear Rainforest and working with local First Nations to preserve one of the world’s last intact temperate rainforests. Despite conservation successes like recovering whale populations, the region remains 70% unprotected and threatened by industrial development, while the team faces the added challenge of operating from a remote, low‑bandwidth location and educating a global audience about the area’s urgency.

To meet that challenge Pacific Wild leaned on visual storytelling and social media—photos, videos, translated posts and live streams from “Great Bear LIVE”—and partnered with Hootsuite for coaching, scheduling and analytics. The result: tighter team collaboration, reliable live sharing despite limited connectivity, measurable audience growth and broader international engagement that amplifies their conservation message and mobilizes supporters to take action.
