How the University of South Australia lifts global engagement by 42%

The University of South Australia (UniSA), South Australia’s largest institution with over 33,000 students and a top-50 “under 50” ranking, set out to become more globally engaged by rolling out a university-wide social media strategy across Communications & Marketing, Admissions, and Student Services. Key challenges included coordinating multiple international and domestic teams, managing growing volumes of student and alumni inquiries, improving crisis and campus communications, and developing engagement across diverse platforms.

UniSA implemented Hootsuite Enterprise to centralize outreach, team collaboration, security, monitoring and reporting—using Teams, Assignments, Permissions, Scheduler, Streams, geo-targeting and tagging to assign inquiries, track sentiment and generate reports. The centralized approach streamlined customer service and inquiry handling, created a scalable social-business model, and delivered strong results: 125% increase in Facebook Likes, 23% growth in reach to new markets and a 42% rise in global engagement.
