The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) is the leading professional body for infection preventionists, representing about 15,000 nurses, epidemiologists, microbiologists and other health care professionals. When 2008 budget cuts curtailed in-person training and travel, APIC needed a way to keep its dispersed membership connected and sharing best practices to protect patient safety.

APIC launched MyAPIC on the Higher Logic community platform, fully integrated with its iMIS AMS for SSO, automated member profiles, privacy controls and resource libraries. The site rapidly drove engagement: more than 13,000 unique users, 150,000 total logins, 26,000 group subscriptions, and—within eight months—over 14,000 discussion posts from 3,300 contributors plus 440 documents from 215 members; members now post dozens of times daily, making MyAPIC the central element of APIC’s member engagement strategy.
