The customer, Leading Provider of Information, Services and Technology, faced a need to migrate and consolidate data held in an Oracle database and a mainframe (SAS/COBOL) into a modern analytics platform and to convert Ab Initio ETL processes to Netezza code. Their legacy mainframe was hard to maintain, data volumes exceeded 2 TB and were growing ~10% annually, ETL performance constrained data refresh frequency and reporting, and infrastructure/license costs were rising.

Hexaware implemented a dimensional model on the Netezza Performance Server, reused existing flat-file extracts, rewrote Ab Initio and mainframe ETL logic into Netezza SQL using NZLOAD/NZSQL, and ran transformations in parallel. Hexaware’s solution delivered up to a 30x improvement in ETL performance, enabled faster, extensible reporting (including adding new-country data post-migration), reduced manual report preparation and errors, and provided real-time load capability, lower maintenance costs and scalable MPP-based analytics.
